Experts Gear up for Pandemic of Vaccine Worry

Washington (Reuters) Sept. 16, 2009

Memories linger of the 1976 swine flu debacle, when 43 million Americans were vaccinated against a virus that never spread, and newspapers filled with reports of Guillain-Barre syndrome.

"We have anticipated that there will be a need for enhanced surveillance for Guillain-Barre as well as other adverse events," Dr Nancy Cox of the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention told the meeting. But because H1N1 is new, vaccine makers have been testing it to learn what the right dose is.

To address this, CDC and the U.S. Food and Drug Administration are gearing up for one of the biggest surveillance efforts ever. "We know how absolutely essential clear, transparent communications are to the public in order to have a successful vaccination campaign," Cox said.

Guillain-Barre syndrome (GBS) is a type of demyelinating neuropathy. [1] [2] It is a clinically defined syndrome characterized by motor difficulty, absence of deep tendon reflexes (with preservation of cutaneous reflexes), paresthesias without objective sensory loss, pain on deep palpation of large muscles, minor modification in electrical reactions of nerve and muscle, and increased CSF albumin with absence of cellular reaction (albuminocytologic dissociation). [1] [3] Acute inflammatory demyelinating polyradiculoneuropathy (AIDP) is a multifocal inflammatory process involving the peripheral nervous system. [4]

I think I will keep out of sight and keep to the new silver product from American Biotech Labs (ABL). I will be making this available soon.  Below is an email from an ABL rep. that pretty much sums it up.

Mark,
Thank you for the email.  American Biotech Labs holds the patent to a technology called SilverSol Technology®.  Some companies claim Silver Sol Technology, which is not trademarked (the difference is only a space in the wording, but evidentially it is very important).  While ABL maintains many private label contracts with some of these Silver Sol technology companies, there are quite a few and I don't necessarily keep up on all of them.  Regardless, I am not sure if they would want us telling others that we make their product even if I did know for certain.  If it looks like it may be a private label company, it just may be.
